YUKON 100x HELPS BOW HUNTER BAG HIS FIRST BULL!
MANSFIELD, Texas – September 27, 2006.
Everyone remembers their first time; it’s something
that you never really forget. The waiting; the
anticipation; the hours of practice… all leading to
one spectacular moment when the world around
you fades away and only the two of you are left.
You… and one brute of a bull elk.
George Monroe of Oregon definitely remembers
his first time to successfully bow hunt an elk in the
high desert country of his home state. It was just
this year, September 15, 2006 to be exact. He and
his 16-year-old son, Cody, were ranging over an
area known to hide the elusive beasts in the hopes
of George, after 3 years of being thwarted, bagging
his first one ever.
Visibility through the abundant sage brush, juniper trees and
thick mahogany was less than promising and the senior Monroe,
experienced hunter that he is, slung his Yukon 6-100x100 spotting
scope from over his shoulder knowing that if anything was going to
catch sight of his prey of choice that would be the spotter to do the job. Cody assisted his
father by bugling with his elk call, something he was a first timer at, too. Whether it was the power
and clarity of the 100x, Cody’s scintillating calls, divine intervention… or perhaps all three… George
Monroe couldn’t believe what he saw!
“We spotted this animal at approximately 500 yards with my 6-100x100… we would never have seen
him if I didn’t have my spotting scope,” says Monroe. “I… put a hunt on him and was lucky enough to
get him.”
The animal George saw through his 100x was a huge 6x6 monster typical bull elk, scoring a
whopping 301 and making the Oregon state record book.
